Frey here: What kind of T-Rex just bites a conquistador and doesn't finish the job? I really will have to watch this movie when it reruns. I can't believe Will lived through such a bite!

Actually, Marco Sanchex's character, Rios, shoots the dino in the eye prompting it to drop Will.

I know! I just wish people would keep that in mind when they criticize the film. You also have to keep in mind that we didn't use any soundstages in this film. Everything was done outdoors and in very rough terrain. And with only 15 days to film, we worked our asses off to quickly reset and prep for each shot.

Dude, I'm sorry you all only had 15 days to shoot the movie. It certianly bites that you all had to work so fast and I imagine furious to get it filmed in such a short amount of time. My hat is off to everyone involved for doing that. However, that fact is not going to make me like it any better. I don't discount the hard work everyone involved did. I'm merely saying that for me, it has the feel of a movie that was put together in 15 days. Had you all had more time and money I'm sure it would have been a better film. Chalk it up to experience and move on. You were able to pay bills. That's a good day in my book. Wink

I'm not discounting that everyone worked hard and did their best. I'm just disappointed that something that SciFi was pushing as this phenomenal movie wasn't all that phenomenal to me. For frell's sake man, Richard Manning and David Kemper produced Farscape. If you've ever watched Farscape then maybe you'll understand my disappointment in this movie.

Please don't think I'm angry or upset with anyone here. I do not praise a movie/tv show/play/book if I do not like it. I'll praise the work that went into it but not praise the product so as not to hurt any one's feelings. I try to be constructive in my critisim as I like to think that constructive critisim is helpful. I know I appreciate it wheh I get it. It helps me grow as a person and performer.

Please don't misunderstand me and this goes to everyone else here. If you don't like the movie then you don't like it. I'm not going to try and convince anyone otherwise. And yes I have read some of the comments on Imdb. Some are respectful and constructive and others are simply juvenile and ignorant as far as I'm concerned. I mean to post something like "this is the worst movie ever made" or "this movie sucks" to me shows the lack of intelligence and imagination of the person making the statement.

I agree, I mean, one of my buddies said he didn't like it because of the story line, He thought that it was stupid the whole, "conquistadors and aztecs mixed with dinosaurs" thing, but he has never seen any other sci-fi channel dionsaur movies, most of them take place in 21st century, and usually the story line is somehow always the same, having to do with some kind of radioactive S**t seeping through the ground and resurrecting the dinos, and the navy seals, or some army type force would go and kill them, and alot of times the dinos were at some nuclear waste facility or in the big city or something, and if they think that the CGI in "Aztec Rex" was bad, tell them to watch the 3 "Carnosaur" movies, the raptors were guys in rubber suits! but anyway, to me, it's storylines like "Aztec Rex" that keep the imagination still alive today, I mean if everyone made movies that wouldn't let us think and use our imaginations, then what fun is there in that, thats just my personal opinion, i'm glad that the writers actually took the time to think of something different and I respect that.

Frey here: Actually there are dinosaurs all over the place, they're just mostly small. I don't know of a scifi movie that anyone would watch called "attack of the giant chicken"! Thanks for informing me of the eye shot on the T-Rex. I still think a reflex bite would have cut Will in half. I wonder if many of the movies use a chop in half bite to avoid death scenes. Half a body doesn't usually say much. It's also visually very gruesome, for the teenagers I guess.

Well if you know where one can find a real life t-rex or a realistic-looking 20-foot puppet of one, I would love to know where you'd find one!

man, on the Sci Fi forums there are some people really ripping on the film and especially the acting. I guess when you put yourself out there you open yourself up to criticism like that. I'm definitely going to blog about this on my Myspace page tonight when I get home from work.

Some of the statement made:

"Yes its true, the master morons in charge of sci-fi will inflict yet another POS movie on their viewers. It would seem that nbc and sci-fi has bought up all the five dollar scripts that were in the trash files in the nbc archive.
I'm sick of the ***** on sci-fi, I am sick of the wrestling, ghost hunting and a load of merd that I try to watch and can't.

I would like to watch descent sci-fi, and good anime! I seem to be able to find those things everywhere BUT the sci-fi channel.

Does it do any good at all to ##### about this, It dosen't look like it. We need to pull down the one's in the ivory towers"

"SlyverWolfe, I'm with you. I adore Ricky but the writing was boring. What I want to know is why the WIGS didn't get billing? The reason no one could recognize Ian is because that wig was in control. It was ****** because it didn't get billing. The wigs were horrible. I eventually gave up and watched something else. Sorry Ricky, I'm chalking this up to you needed to pay some bills. You to David. Not even Will Snow (Mendoza) was enough to keep me watching. Will is normally a hottie, but with that dead animal on his head and face, it was hard to see that."

"Good things: bikini bades (women in a village like that would have been topless, but this is basic cabel)
Dino chomping
Took only 27 minutes to view using DVR

new historical information: Aztecs used formed concrete

bad things: "acting""

I asked in response to that last one just what was bad, specifically about the acting and this is the reply I got:

"All of it was bad, except for the dinosaur. To say it was two dimensional gives it too many dimensions. It was flat, non-inspiring, not emotive, monotonal rote recitation of the script. I was left praying that the stupid dinosaur would eat everyone, fast. The wigs were only slightly better in the acting range."

"I thought this movie was unwatchable, even with the sound turned off. It was so low budget that there were hardly any Aztecs or Spaniards. As usual, there were no characters that anyone would care about.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex was interesting, but unexplained. Also, the dinosaur was cleverly hidden in most scenes to cut down on the CGI costs. I did not watch this plodding feature to the end, but I presume they killed off a perfectly good dinosaur that was definitely more important than any of the people."

"These movies actually appeal to the very same crowd that watch and enjoy wrestling, and whether we like it or not they seem to be the majority."

Somebody made mention of the end of the credits where it said, "No dinosaurs were harmed in the making of this film" and posted the following in relation:

"Followed by: "No actors were hired for the filming of this movie.""

Wow! Not sure what to say about those! Confused

Hmm...maybe I can offer some suggestions...

Clever Reply: Uh, that was Will's own beard.

Clever Reply: Well, they were a pretty damn advanced civilization! Haven't you seen 500 Nations?

Clever response: I'll have you know that the acting wasn't monotonal. There was some impressive indignant shouting.

"I thought this movie was unwatchable, even with the sound turned off. It was so low budget that there were hardly any Aztecs or Spaniards. As usual, there were no characters that anyone would care about.

Clever witty retort: How many would you have wanted? The Aztec Village was steadily sacrificing perfectly good young women to the dinosaur- and that isn't recommended by the World Health Organization as a reliable population control system. Plus, only so many conquistadors can fit in a dingy, you know.

"These movies actually appeal to the very same crowd that watch and enjoy wrestling, and whether we like it or not they seem to be the majority."

Snort indignantly. Some of us find dinosaur baiting a much more enjoyable and exciting sport than wrestling. Also with much less machismo.

Somebody made mention of the end of the credits where it said, "No dinosaurs were harmed in the making of this film" and posted the following in relation:

"Followed by: "No actors were hired for the filming of this movie.""

First response: And how many movies have you been in exactly? And they were all Shakespeare were they?

Second response: After doing Isben, Shakespeare, and Chekov, Burgess Merideth still was best known for being the flipping Penguin. So, bite me.

Third response: Hmm... after carefully reading and evaluating your opinion of my and my colleagues work on this project, I've sat and thought carefully over what should be the best reply to you. Ah, I have it - Oh, by the way, **** you!! (used with the permission of the estate of James P. Doyle)

Wow! Not sure wh
at to say about those! Confused

Hi,

I missed this movie the first time around, and I would love to get a chance to see it. When I checked the scifi channel last month I was able to see that it was playing again sometime in June. Unfortunately, now I can't find that information.
Did I miss it again? Or can someone tell me when it is playing again?

I love scifi channel movies! And a chance to see some familiar faces!

Thanks!

.....must convince husband to get tivo.....

Nova I don't see Aztec Rex on the June schedule... perhaps I'm mistaken....

on a slightly different note the DVD is promised to be on the street by August 5, 2008 (subject to change).

On a similiar note (and probably due to Shawn and WILL):

Sci Fi Channel:
Sci Fi Channel had its best May to-date in total viewers (1.26 million: +14 percent from May 2007), adults 18-34 (229,000), adults 18-49 (614,000: +13 percent), adults 25-54 (681,000: +12 percent), and all key male and female demographics. Growth among women, in particular, was as much as 25 percent in the 25-54 age range from one year earlier.
