Well, it's here. The final season of LOST.

The first episode of the final season aired here in the U.S. last Tuesday and it was, as we might expect, filled with some twist-turns, deaths, new characters -- and a few oldies coming back to remind us why we miss them so much. There were also a few notable missing characters.

Spoilers ahead .…

When last we saw the gang they had decided to set off a hydrogen bomb back in 1977 (?). Jack explained if they set it off then the magnetic pull that brought Flight 815 down would not be there (back in their own time) and they would make it to L.A. without incident. Problems ensue, poor Juliet is dragged down into the hole where the unexploded bomb had been thrown and she, with seemingly her last breath, detonates the bomb ...

Next thing we know we are on the plane, Flight 815, again -- and it does not crash. There are slight differences. Shannon never came back with Boone (who seemed a bit bitter about it -- Hi Boone!), Hurley makes the comment that nothing bad ever happens to him while he and Sawyer talk, and Desmond is on the plane (nice and at ease) and Jack swears he‘s met him before. But the biggest shock is -- Charlie has short hair! Probably because D.M. cut his hair meanwhile. ;) And, unfortunately, he is arrested because he is found to have drugs on his person. Dah!
Sadly, some things haven't changed. Kate is still in handcuffs, Locke of course cannot walk, and Jin and Sun are as distant as ever. However, Bernard does come back from the bathroom and he and Rose are very sweet together -- but if you recall Rose's history ... she probably will die eventually once back home. I believe she has a cancer that the island cured while she was there.

Once in LA. Locke and Jack meet and talk when they come up with missing items -- Locke’s suitcase of knives and Jack’s father’s coffin -- how do you misplace a whole coffin?? Anyway, Jack gives Locke his card and tells him he’s a spinal surgeon so Locke should come see him for a consultation. Interestingly, Jack is “the man of faith” in this scene and Locke seems to be “the man of science” not believing he can be helped.
Kate escapes the Marshall and jumps into a taxi, brandishing a gun and telling the driver to DRIVE. Guess who is also in the cab -- A very nervous Claire!

Meanwhile, back on the island -- possibly in 1977 -- it seems that nothing has changed! Ah ha! parallel universe! Sawyer is furious with Jack because he feels he is responsible for Juliet's death, Kate is trying to make sense of the whole thing, Miles is forced - by Sawyer - to use his ability and listen to Juliet's last words which are a mysterious: "It worked." which they don't understand but, I think, we do.
Poor Sayeed, who was shot in the last episode is on his last leg ... but Jacob comes back in "ghost" form and tells Hurley to take him to a temple to save his life. He and the gang do it, we meet some new angry characters, Sayeed is dumped into water, it's announced he's dead and -- but wahlah! he sits up and is alive at the end of the episode.

TO BE CONTINUED.

All in all, I enjoyed this season opener and if the rest of the season is as good I think we are in for a treat.

You know, I can't wait until May and the final episode to find out what this is all about. But I also hope not to miss an episode in between!

I asked my brother in law if he liked it. He said he did but there is "too much going on". I guess he couldn't keep up with it. I'm invested. If I don't watch the whole final season I won't be able to look myself in the mirror again ... Darn this show for getting me hooked.

Last year because of the time Lost aired, against another show I wanted to watch, I started watching Lost online--and then fell well behind. I thought I was going to have to buy or rent the DVDs to get caught up, but Netflix is streaming it, so I watched it from there--and watching the 2nd half of the finale on Tuesday afternoon!

This year, it's on Tuesday and no conflict, so I'll be watching every episode (or at least taping it--I don't have DVR).

Although I will definitely miss the show once it's off the air, I'm very glad they've announced the last season. I think more shows should do that, and have a great finale!

Ot definitely is complicated. Can't imagine how they're going to unwind everything, and I'm sure it won't be to everyone's satisfaction. What I'd like to do is eventually watching the entire season over again, perhaps an episode a day, one after another. Knowing the ending might make it easier to understand! :D

I was highly disappointed in the premiere and am going to give the show a couple more eps to wow me back. For me, the last couple of seasons have been big turn offs, the only thing I watched for was watching the fabulous relationship between Juliet & Sawyer blossom and grow. Now it's kinda sorta dead and I'm kinda sorta done with the show. They're going back to the bouncing around in time flashback stuff that I hated in the beginning. We'll see if I stick around for the last few eps of the season.

The first part of the episode was quite boring, but the other one was exciting.

The fact that nobody seems to actually die on the island gives me hope regarding Juliet--and I wouldn't want to miss her return! :o

I think Island!Juliet is well and truly dead BUT I'm hoping that with them showing the gang pre-getting stuck on the island that some how in that universe, she & Sawyer will hook up and live their own kind of happily ever after. That's the ONLY thing keeping me watching since honestly I stopped caring (thank you writers) about pretty much every other character on the show except for Sun, Jin, Sayid, Juliet & Sawyer. I use to like Kate a lot but then they turned her into this wishywashycan'tdecidewhoshewants kind of woman that just drives me up the frellin' wall (nothing against Evie who plays her, she's a fabu actress, imho, she's just been given crap to work with).

It's my hope that Kate will finally make up her mind by series end but I'm thinking of an alternate. She hooks up with Sawyer in L.A. and Jack on the island. Best of both worlds! :D

No, no, no. No Kate with any universe Sawyer. Hook her up with Sayid if you have to hook her up with anyone from the island. LOL Sawyer in any and all universes belong with Juliet, period. ;) :D

Oh my, if you try to tell me that these producers never saw TLW I'd have to be very skeptical.
We had out "protector of the plateau" and now they have come up with one of their candidates being "the protector of the island".
Sound very familiar to me.

I'm just waiting to learn that the island is the source of everything. It really wouldn't surprise me.

Well, this week's "Richard" episode was certainly interesting--and enlightening in some ways. Very powerful. Richard started out as a relatively minor character, now it seems as though he might be the most important of all!

I really loved this episode. Very well acted (poor Richard!) and it tied together some loose strings. I thought the explanation Jacob gave Richard about what the island (not to mention the smoke monster) was about, using the wine bottle as an example, was very simple and logical. Obviously Jacob is the cork holding in an evil that should never escape and find itself in the outside world -- and whoever is supposed to be the next Jaob will have their work cut out for them.
Now where this good and evil on the island came from in the first place is another story all together.

What is interesting is you can go back to the very first or second episode and remember Locke telling Walt all about good and evil. Little did he know that that evil would eventually take on his own form. Chilling when you think about it.

And I also liked that we now know that Hurley really does have an ability to see dead people. Jacob is Jacob so I could see that as "real" but the others -- Charlie, Anna Lucia, Libby (and Mr Eko) could have just been his slightly warp imginationwhile he was resting in the assylum but now we know for sure they were not. He really was seeing them -- just as he saw Richard's wife. 8)
