Great intro Leener.
The villagers are interesting and the reader is pulled into their lives. The back and forth between Marguerite and Malone is amusing and has the right edge.
You can tell there's going to be trouble in paradise, that's for sure.
Can't wait to see what comes next.

It is Monday, is it not?

*taps foot*

Didn't Leener say she'd post new bits on Mondays?

[font=Verdana]Sorry for the delay (even though it is still Monday Sunkrux :P), I've had a very busy day.

Thank you to Sunkrux and santa crux for reviewing, I appreciate the kind words.

So without further ado, here is the next part. Look for the next part next Monday.

Burden of Proof: Act I, Scene II

Enjoy! Comments are welcome!

The murder is well set-up in these first two scenes. There's lots of potential victims and murderers and lots of underlying tensions and history ... though I was sad to see who turned out to be the victim.
I am enjoying the intermingling of languages and how skillfully you carry it off without the reader losing the gist of things.
Sure hope LJR has a good lawyer!!
Great read Leener!

Thank you SunKrux, Nadin, santa crux, and donnah for your reviews. I'm glad all of you are enjoying the story. Your words of encouragement mean a lot, thank you. :)

I'm sorry for the wait, but you know how those cliches go...absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. ;)

Good chapter Leener! Poor Roxton. Will Maguerite and Malone figure it out in time to save Roxton? Let's hope so.

I love the way Malone and Marguerite work together. I think the chemistry between them is great. There's a strong bond between those two.

Having read this story I can tell you it's a very clever whodunit. There's a few twists and turns ahead. So if you haven't started reading, get to it. You won't regret it.

Hmmm, who done it? Cause we all KNOW it wasn't Roxton! ;) Great scene Leener! Is it next Monday yet?

Great intrigue Leener. All the elements of a good whodunnit - a stunned suspect, a smoking gun and a missing weapon, a crime scene chock full of clues and a detective tandem with sharp wits. And in the spirit of the genre the sleuths are a bit of an odd match.

I'm a little worried about Roxton. Looks like he won't be able to help in his own defense.

Can't wait for some more clues on Monday!

[font=Verdana]Thank you katybelle, SunKrux, and santa crux for your posts. I appreciate that you guys take the time out after reading to post a few words, reviews always go a long way into letting a writer know their hard work is being enjoyed by someone. :)

So, it's Monday and that means another part for those that are following along with the story. Will Marguerite and Malone finally get a leg up on the murderer and find something to help Roxton? Find out in Act II, Scene II: M&M Are on the Case.

Enjoy!

 Oh no! Who would want to hurt Marguerite?!

Nice addition Leener. I especially loved Marguerite's pinching of Malone.
