Hello Everyone Smile I'm delighted to introduce Mr. Shawn Lathrop, co-star of the upcoming SciFi TV movie, "Aztec Rex". Mr. Lathrop has agreed to answer questions about "Aztec Rex", "Lost" and his Independent film work (see bio below). The format we are going to use is similar to the question and answer session we had with Laura Vasquez. You may post questions in this thread during starting now, through May 11, 2008 midnight, CDT. The questions will be sent off to Mr. Lathrop. He sends the answered questions back to me and they are posted.

For those that are not in the USA and will not be able to see "Aztec Rex" you can still ask general questions. For example: "What would your ideal role be?" "Who would you like to work with in film?" "Why?" "What is your favorite Music, Sound, Scent?" etc.

What a very real pleasure to work and speak (via e-mail) with Mr. Lathrop. He has been adorably gracious, kind, witty, wise and extremely goodhearted ...as well as generous with his time.

Biography Information

Shawn Lathrop Born July 8, 1973 ( in Sunnyvale, California) is a professional actor living in Hawaii.

Early Life and Career

His first theater experience was in the large scale production of the nativity for the Medford, Oregon First Nazarene Church at age 7. The acting bug bit him and he appeared in every school performance he could. He competed twice in school talent contests playing airband with friends in fifth and sixth grade. "Nobody could play an airguitar like I could, man!" he was quoted saying.

In high school his attention was more focused on working, dating and being a class clown. Pressure from friends kept him from auditioning for plays as it was seen as "uncool" by his peers. In his senior year, he and a friend approached the teacher in charge of the theater program and convinced him to allow them to build sets and perform technical work on productions to satisfy their need for an elective credit to graduate. Shawn and his friend Jack built sets and props for several plays that year and worked the stage lights for several productions.

In college, Shawn was able to return to his love of performing when he landed the role of the Sherriff in the play "The Crucible" for Hawaii Pacific University directed by Joyce Maltby. Unfortunately, illness and slipping grades forced him to drop out only a week before opening night leaving his understudy to take over the role. He focused on honing his craft for the next 4 years by taking workshops by Hawaii-based casting director Margaret Doversola who would become a dear friend of his over the span of ten years. Shawn also took acting classes from the likes of Wayne Ward in Honolulu and Joyce Maltby through her Advanced Scene Study class at HPU. For his final grade in that class, Shawn performed as three different characters in scenes from Arthur Miller plays "A View From the Bridge" and "Death of a Salesman". He also studied and passed a script writing class at HPU under english professor Mark Tjarks.

Recent Work

From 2003 to 2007 while employed as a Behavioral Specialist with the Hawaii Department of Education at Kailua High School in Kailua, HI, Shawn volunteered his time as an advisor and acting coach to the Kailua High School Drama Club and assisted in producing and directing three plays as well as coaching students in the use of improv and method acting for the stage.

I have not had an opportunity to watch the movie yet, though I've taped it for future viewing. However, I do have a couple of questions:

I see you were born in Sunnyvale. Did you ever visit the beach and Boardwalk in Santa Cruz?

During your numerous stints on the Lost sets, did you learn any secrets about the future plots you can share?

Do people ever bug you about whether you know any "Lost" secrets? LOL!

Were you "forced" to work in Hawaii?

Acting with a blue screen against "invisible" monsters must be difficult. Do you find it so?

Did Will Snow talk about The Lost World at all? I saw a Sci-fi channel commercial for Aztec Rex which claimed that the creature was from a "Lost World."

Do you ever watch your completed films?

Thanks for your willingness to "talk" to us, Shawn. Good luck in your future career.

Shawn, are there any on-set Aztec Rex bloopers you can share with us?

How was the weather during filming?

Harrison Ford belongs to the "lets pretend" school of acting. Are your methods similar to his? If not, how so?

Working with Brian Trenchard-Smith as director was: (fill in the blank).

As an actor what would your ideal role be?

What is your professional philosophy?

Were you comfortable with depictions of nudity/violence/etc (to the extent that's applicable to the project)?

What was your goal, as a part of the Aztec Rex team?

A question was forwarded to me by someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

"Underneath the wig, was Will's hair really, really short?" "Was that his real beard?" Rolling Eyes

Thank you so much.. Shawn.. Smile

Hi Shawn, going into acting from high school to college must have been a big decision. What was it like? How did your parents react?

How did you support yourself in college, while working on your acting skills? Any interesting side jobs? Was there ever a concern for "not making it", or did you decide right away what you wanted, and worked your way towards that?

What was your favorite experience working on "Aztec Rex?" How did you prepare? Did you have to speak in an accent? Did you get to keep anything from the sets (you can tell us Wink)?

Who is your favorite actor/actress, why do you like him or her, and whose style of acting would you consider yourself to be most similar to, if any?

What's your favorite film genre? What are your current interests?

And lastly, where would you most like to work as an actor?

Thank you so much for your time! You are so awesome!

I wish you well on your career,
Geoffrey

Hello Shawn,

Aztec Rex hasn't aired here in Ireland yet. Till then I'm going mad listening to everyone talk about it.

So tell us, when you saw this movie for the first time, what did you think of seeing yourself being chased around the screen by a huge blood thirsty dinosaur?

I have one more question for you if you have the time,

If you could do a remake of any movie, what would it be and who would be your co-stars?

Your a sweetheart to come on here and have a chat with us. Thanks Shawn and best of everything to you and yours.

My turn...my turn....

Hey Shawn, tell us more about your air guitar skills....who were and are your guitar heros?

If you could select any costar, director and producer to work with, who would that be and why?

If you can, without revealing anything too personal about anyone, tell us about being a "Behavioral Specialist".

Where can we see you next? I think we're all looking forward to your next endeavor.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! It's great to get a view from an insider. And if you get called to do any movies in Austin, TX. let me know...it's a terrific place to be!
