wow, this episode had every reason I love this show.
Loads of action
Plot twists
High emotions
dino attacks
Great characters
and more.
I loved the character of Kartas, he was perfect. Great job on the make up. [l loved his voice too] Very cool how he found Roxton and crews' tracks in the mud, then threw up some dust and he could see an image of them.
Marguerite worrying about Roxton was sweet. And Ned thinking he had made Veroncia so happy.
Veronica was so different around the man she thought was her dad, so childlike. [until he drugged her.]
Perfect how it was Marguerite that noticed how he looked at Veronica when she tried on her mom's dress. Only her.
And Summerlee, he was fab as always. Just such a natural with this kind of dialogue.
Roxton had some very good lines. "friends, can't reason with them, can't shoot them."
But ladies, now we know why we loved this one so much, yes TLW men with no shirts on. My little son had to come home early from school today because of a tummy bug. [lovely] It wasn't easy trying to get him to let me watch the show. I just wanted to yell out, "Sean! They don't have their shirts on, please let mommy watch!" Have mercy, what chance do my boys have with a mother like me. _________________ I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Yeah, this is a good episode! The plot was interesting enough but the end ruined it all, for me at least! Roxton being stabbed and the way the episode ended annoyed me a lot. But in the same eppie we have the infamous cat fight scene with Marg& V in the mud. The guys surely enjoyed it _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/RoxieTLW

Oh yeah -Kartas was definately the coolest villain ever to appear on TLW. He was like the rogue/vigilante/executioner. It would have been interesting to see what his people were like -even better if they had their own civillization, or ancient culture. I also liked the part of his encouter with the apemen. He threw one of them like he was hurling a small rock! His performance was very convincing, and he put a lot of energy and strength into playing his character.
Kartas/Roxton Dialogue:
"You sure it's tight enough? I think some blood is still reaching my hands....
I am kartas. (those two parts kill me everytime )
I am Roxton. I think I recognize the rope technique.
I seek the one who calls himself...Tom -Layton.
...There must be some mistake.
There is no mistake -you think we take life easily? He was tried by my people and convicted. It was his execution you interfered with.
He was about to be eaten alive!
There – are – worse - things."
Another scene I liked was Tom and Sumerlee's dialogue. Not a very complex scene, but I very much appreciated Summerlee's craftiness in the way he exploited Tom, and then his peppery remark at the end. His character seems only to get better when he's angry.
Tom/Summerlee Dialogue:
Summerlee: Veronica draws like another Audubon you must be very proud of her.
Tom: Always wish I had the talent. She got that from her mother.
Abigail? Veronica said that you taught her yourself.
-Of course, we both did.
...Did you know that the latent period of that Muscaria will last another three weeks.
-I’d actually accounted for that.
The Muscaria has no latent period. You’re not a botanist and you’re not Tom Layton!
-Don’t worry old man I won’t kill you. I need your help.
I’ll be damned if I’ll help you!
Coincidentally, I had just watched "Absolute Power" last night -again, great scene between Summerlee and Malone. Michael's just got that sharp-tongued, short-tempered British blood in him .

--No, this ep was also a sad one for me. First time I re-watched it, I really thought she had found her dad! _________________ They're not mushrooms! They're jungle truffles! ~ VL

I agree, this is one of my fav episodes! For both content, characters and a slightly more edgier feeling to it.
But I so wish they'd spent 5 minutes more just tying up loose ends... or putting stitches in a certain stabbed person!
:-D

I like Kartas a lot. He's probably one of my favourite villians (after Death, of course, she's my favourite). About the episode: it's a nice one, I like when Marguerite was so worried about Roxton; they're also some good dialogues, for example the one between Kartas & Roxton (while Roxton was just "hanging around"), and when Malone and Marguerite met Summerlee (drugged):
Summerlee: Could I have the gun back, please?
Malone (or Marguerite, I don't remember right now): Why?
Summerlee: So I can kill you.
Then Marguerite laughed, but after she saw his face, she said: You're serious...

I really enjoyed this episode, even though the premise was a little far out. Everyone's characterization was right on.
Marguerite couldn't help but gloat over trading away Malone and Roxton's shirts for a trinket for herself. I think she was just trying to make sure they "got it." After all, what fun is it if no one else gets the joke. She also refused to help them carry Veronica's "father." She was truly happy when she thought they had found Tom Layton, but she was the first to notice that something was "off." Rachel Blakely ability to convey her feelings with just a look is fantastic. Marguerite displayed some protectiveness for Veronica by complimenting her on the dress (which did look pretty good) to take attention away from "Tom's" reaction. When Roxton disappeared she was truly worried but she vowed never to let him know. I also liked the dig about promising to wash "Roxton's socks for a month." Finally, she got to tackle Veronica in order to save Roxton.
Roxton was, of course, nobly heroic. His flirtatious reaction when Malone figured out that Marguerite traded their shirts on purpose (he probably realized it all along) was fun. Naturally, he saved a complete stranger at serious risk to himself. It was interesting that he didn't doubt "Tom's" identity because of Tom's actions, but because he instinctively recognized that Kartas was another man of honor. He looked a little angry when Malone poked him during their argument but didn't react. His confrontation with Summerlee and Challenger was priceless. Of course, his first reaction after he was stabbed was to tell Malone to help Marguerite. It was only fitting that he got his revenge by being the one to kill Tom. As a complete gentleman, we know, even though we didn't see the scene, that he would never hold a little thing like being stabbed against Veronica.
After Marguerite, Malone is my second favorite character. He only caught on to Marguerite's "treachery" with the Zangas when she flaunted it, but he didn't lose his temper because he does have a sense of proportion. For a man of the early 20th century, he is completely comfortable asking a lady to help with physical labor. The more courteous, refined Roxton usually allows Marguerite to play the "weaker sex card." Malone's complete loyalty to Veronica extended to the man she thought was her father. But, despite his doubts, he made an able partner with Marguerite. Of course, as the one closest to Veronica, he was the one who was able to comfort her at the end of the episode.
Summerlee's innate ability to read people allowed him to quickly recognize that Tom was an imposter. If Tom had slipped up in front of Challenger, Malone or Roxton, they would have accepted Tom's attempt to cover up, but Summerlee immediately knew that something was wrong. I especially enjoyed Michael Sinelnikoff's acting when he was "drugged." He was hilarious, which helped me to suspend disbelief (I understand it is a fantasy show, but a drug that caused that kind of reaction?)
Unfortunately, Challenger didn't get much to do in this episode. At this point in the series, he hadn't become Veronica's surrogate father, so it makes sense, but it was a little disappointing.
Veronica's desperation to find her parents overcame her usual survival instincts. She was uncharacteristically vulnerable before she "recognized" Tom, which I found interesting. It also seemed uncharacteristic for her to look for samples with her father rather than look for Roxton--especially with the threatening drums, but she was driven by her desperation to believe she had found her father. Marguerite sensed this, which is why she didn't confide her suspicions to Veronica, she knew she would need more proof.
The best line of the episode: "So I can kill you."

| That was beautifully written, Roxton's Lady. I enjoyed this so much and was able to relive it. I now feel as though I should be more in depth with my thoughts on each episode now.

I suffered in silence or rewatched my tapes and DVDs of TLW. This web site is one of the best gifts I've ever received. I thank each and every one of you for being here! _________________ Marguerite from Blood Lust: It's just a broken limb. For all we know it could have been from a stampede of bunny rabbits.
