I like the episode. It's full of action and adventure.
But it would be better, if there were more M/R scenes.

This episode was not exactly my cup of tea.....Roxton seemed a little too oblivious to Marguerite´s (and others) danger.... _________________

| I loved that scene with Malone and Summerlee 'there are certain things a gentleman does and certain things a gentleman does not do'.

Well, that's not one of my favourite episodes, I'd also prefer more M/R scenes, and, by the way, I really don't like that blind kid... it's so annoying.

Not one of my favorite episodes but, other than the annoying kid, I am at a loss to explain why. It was a great Marguerite episode, and the story, trapped underground with Malone and Challenger, was really pretty good.
Marguerite is, in turn, greedy, feisty, vulnerable, determined, full of spirit, unapologetic, and devious. Her exchange with Challenger wasn't cruel--Challenger was already blaming himself--but she was brutally honest. It was not in Marguerite's nature to tell Challenger he wasn't responsible.
But it was the dialogue with Malone, when she thinks they are dying, that is most revealing. At that point, she makes no apologies for who she is. I think that her character begins to evolve in Time After Time but it is only in Resurrection, when she begins to realize that her past is interfering with her relationship with Roxton, that she expresses regrets. Of course, Rachel Blakely brilliantly delivers the best line of the episode: you picked a fine time to start listening to me.
Like Amazons and Cave of Fear, Challenger demonstrates that he has a way with the ladies, especially authority types. If it had been up to Gaza (?), the explorers would have been released. Interesting that Challenger was prepared to believe the unscientific explanation that the wierd kid had psychic powers rather than believe Marguerite wouldn't be interested in the gold.
After Malone's revelation about Gladys, it is interesting that the wierd kid recognizes that he is noble and a better man than he knows. Even more interesting that Malone is the first to understand the wierd kid's motives for ordering their execution. I felt that it was uncharacteristic for Malone to allow the others to believe their adventure was a dream, he is usually so determined to get the story out.
Veronica was determined, brave and clever. As Challenger noted in the 3rd season, the explorers were almost dangerously reliant on her knowledge and skill. Roxton demonstrated his respect for her when he allowed her to stand guard while he slept. At that point, I don't think he would have let anyone else do that.
Summerlee had some great scenes but little character development. As always, he was prepared to sacrifice himself to save the others, but there was no false bravado or assurances that he would be fine. Despite his reluctance to come along it was a good thing he did: it was his pipe that saved the explorers, the cave dwellers and the wierd kid!
I enjoyed that Roxton was surprised he fell asleep. Not being perfect was unacceptable to him. The scene with Roxton making bullets is the answer to the question that I never thought to ask: where do the explorers get all the bullets. Of course, now my question is when do the explorers dig for the metal to make the bullet casing?
It really was a good episode. I wish I enjoyed it more.

I am going to rewatch the episode before commenting because it's fuzzy to me right now, but wanted to say something about the bullet casings. I don't know if I assumed it or if it was alluded to in one episode, but I thought they picked the spent casings up when they could. There was an episode where Roxton was filling or making casings in the tree house. Knowing Marguerite though, they probably found somel good metal nodes near a few juicy gem deposits. I crack up when she goes to that cave and snarls "quartz!". _________________ Marguerite from Blood Lust: It's just a broken limb. For all we know it could have been from a stampede of bunny rabbits.
