One of the films that made ARNOLD "I'll be Back" is being remade... Conan Per Hollywood REporter

'Conan' books 'G.I. Joe' actor
Said Taghmaoui, who played Breaker in the summer hit "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," has booked a role in "Conan," Nu Image/Millennium's take on the barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.

Stephen Lang, the bad guy in "Avatar," has come aboard as the villain of the movie directed by Marcus Nispel.

Taghmaoui is playing a leader of thieves who is saved by Conan (Jason Momoa) and later offers him aid. Lang is a ruler in search of a queen whose blood will bring life to the demonic minions of a long-lost god.

Mickey Rourke was in talks to play Conan's father, but those discussions fell apart. The role remains open.

Shooting is scheduled to start this week in Bulgaria.

And under the WHY?

(Hollywood Reporter) - Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pearce will co-star opposite Kate Winslet in HBO's five-hour miniseries adaptation of "Mildred Pierce." Melissa Leo, James LeGros and Brian F. O'Byrne also have been cast in the project, which was first turned into a 1945 feature starring Joan Crawford in an Oscar-winning lead role.

Ok, so like, man why 77 Sunset Strip (it's getting THE big screen treatment). Those who remember the show won't appreciate the cast changes and those who don't remember the show won't care to see the film. "Kookie" was a major fan favorite and part of the beat generation "Daddy-O"... hard to duplicate (or understand why, nowadays, his character would be so cool and edgy).

Here's a site with a bit of info about the 77 Sunset Strip movie. Even Stephanie Zimbalist (daughter of one of the stars of 77 and star of Remington Steele) posted comments:

From Last Week, Warners is thinking about dusting off "Man of Uncle". The big question now is not when or why, but who. Who will Warners choose to play Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, the two super secret agents of United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), and even if the casting is perfect, as a follow up, how will they inevitably screw it up? The track record for well-loved TV shows being revamped for the silver screen is awful.

NBC's 'Rockford Files' Remake Might Be DOA (one can only HOPE).
by Bob Sassone, posted May 14th 2010 10:40AM

Our friends over at the New York Magazine blog Vulture are reporting that NBC might just give up on the 'Rockford Files' remake that has been getting a lot of press lately. The reason? It's stupid to try to replace James Garner with Dermot Mulroney.

OK, that's not really the reason. Insiders tell Vulture that the pilot episode that was delivered to NBC executives had "lackluster" direction, looked like it was shot in the 1970s and was more of a direct remake than a new, modern take on the private investigator show -- it was reportedly just bad all around. Producer Dawn Parouse spearheaded a new edit of the pilot that the network liked a lot more, but it might be too little too late.

So could it be completely dead at this point, especially since NBC has already picked up several new dramas for the fall? Well, yes. And also no!

NBC head Angela Bromstad has put a lot of time into getting the remake done, so we might still hear the words "NBC has picked up the remake of 'The Rockford Files'" when NBC has its upfront presentation on Monday. But it's looking less likely that will happen than it looked a couple of months ago.

'The Rockford Files' was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I even looked for the same car that Jim Rockford drove when I bought my first car. So when I heard they were making a remake, my first reaction was a cringe. When I heard Mulroney was going to star in it, I didn't cringe, but I certainly scratched my head. Mulroney in James Garner's role? I just didn't see it.

I liked the casting of Beau Bridges as his dad though, and as someone who loves the private eye genre, I look for any reason to have shows like that on. But why a remake of a beloved show? Why not cast Mulroney in a new private eye drama?

Well, probably because 'The Rockford Files' is a beloved show and carries with it a fan base and name recognition. But like a lot of remakes of old shows, I wonder what audience they're going for. Older TV viewers who remember the original and loved it will be irritated by a remake, and younger viewers who really don't have any connection to the original won't care anyway. Remakes of TV shows are always a dice roll. (you think?)

This show could still be given the green light. A lot of people don't know that two of the producers on the show are Steve Carell and David Shore, producer on 'House.' Maybe having those two names attached to it will make NBC want to work things out. We'll probably have a better idea of what's going on with it next week.

Western hero Wyatt Earp is getting the sci-fi treatment via Sam Raimi.
Raimi is attached to direct “Earp: Saints for Sinners,” an adaptation of a Radical graphic novel that Mandeville Films partners David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing for DreamWorks.
Matt Cirulnick will write the script for the project, on which Radical president Barry Levine and Josh Donen, Raimi’s partner at Star Road Entertainment, also are producers.
The film and graphic novel re-imagines Earp — best known for the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, where he fought alongside his two brothers and compadre Doc Holliday — set in a future in which he takes on outlaws in a ravaged society where the only boomtown left is Las Vegas.
The comic was created by Cirulnick and Mandeville exec David Manpearl. M. Zachary Sherman wrote it with Cirulnick, with illustrations by Mack Chater and Martin Montiel. Radical plans on unveiling the project Thursday during its Comic-Con panel.
Manpearl, Cirulnick and Radical’s Jesse Berger are executive producing, and DreamWorks’ Mark Sourian and Jonathan Elrich will oversee.
