While I admire your pluck, kid, I sadly think there is no hope of getting the production company/s to give the fans what we want, a bit of closure to the series.

I remember back when the announcement for no S4 came about I specifically asked J&G to ask the production company head (some here referred to him as "Saint Peter" since his company kept S3 afloat) what the fans could do to help get backing for S4 and basically the answer was nothing, "Saint Peter" was working on it. Well you all see where that got us...Marguerite is stuck in some cave with a freak Druid priest about to stab her to death, Roxton is trapped with Spanish warriors who think he's his great-great-great grandfather, Challenger is about to get a labotomy from brainless wonder, Veronica is stuck in the middle of a huge black void, Summerlee is still lost in Avalon possibly, Finn is back in New Amazoina and gods only know where Malone is.

So, sorry if I'm pullin' you down, but I have no faith in the production company doing anything to bring the fans some closure.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that J&G and Guy gave us the summary to what they had planned for S4 and what some fans have done with said information...but I'm still very sad and a bit bitter that "Saint Peter" thought he could do it all on his own. Too bad he didn't learn anything from David Kemper of Farscape. Kemper went directly to the fans when FS was cancelled and told them point blank to make some noise. That was why backers approached Brian Henson and that's how FS fans got PKWars to sorta wrap things up for the series.

Producers need to learn that the fans can, will and HAVE gotten at least closure for their beloved shows, they only need to ask the fans to make some noise.

But please, don't let that downer of a post there keep you or anyone else from trying and I wish you all the luck in the world as I cheer you on from the sidelines. Wink

Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens have were the primary writers. They obviously wrote for TV w/ TLW, but I've read some amazing Star Trek books they've pumped out. Now, obviously, season 4 would be the ideal situation, but is impossible. A made-for-TV movie wrapping up the S3 finale cliffhanger would be great. But what about...

J&G publishing a novel (or a series of novels) that wrap up the storylines?!? It'd be a little bit different for us than watching it, but I don't see the setback. J&G liked working w/ the characters. They already know the gist of what's going to happen. Whoever had the rights to the show should have no trouble releasing the right to use the characters (for a cut of the profits) since they would've liked to have kept the show on air. And what publishing company wouldn't back a book by proven authors, based on a TV show that was cancelled despite good ratings, and a loyal fan base??

I believe when show tie-in novels were discussed some years before (Susan Zell aka Fraser, a novelist, had wished to write a show tie-in) the problem that came up is that there are too many stakeholders to make a novel profitable. The TLW had a several production companies involved at one time or another who would get royalties and the Arthur Conan Doyle estate also would also have a share, now its time to get to the publishers and the authors for their cut. For most niche books (obviously there are exceptions) I don't think there's enough profit to accommodate everyone.

I was just reading one of J&G's old novels which I talked about in the 'off topics' forum and in their foreword to the re-release of the book, they discussed the problems they had getting the third novel in a proven successful series published.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from following up on asking for Season 4 or a novel, but it's always important to know what issues you face in trying to accomplish your goal so that you can present your arguments and solutions to those problems. And if this sounds business-like rather than emotional, remember that the people to be persuaded have an eye to the bottom line.

hm.

Shouldn't their be some kind of expiration date on the production houses?? Kind of like a statute of limitations. Obviously, the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle estate should get a cut, but over a period of time the rights should be released. Would it help if they didn't use the show's logo on the cover??

Where's CAP when we need her to rifle through all the muck and find a way to manipulate the legal establishments that... have... been established to hinder the conclusion of a fully put-together, non-outline of a TV show that never should've been cancelled in the first place??

Wow, would you look at that... is it just me or have my sentences gotten longer??

Wellllll, as I understand production companies, they own the material until the company becomes defunct or until the company sells the material. Soooo, I don't think there is much chance of books UNLESS they could use the same procedure for TLW books that they used for Star Trek books. Although the Star Trek books are based on a version of Star Trek, not on the original series. But I'd go for books if they could do the deal!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd personally like to see Comics if novels were not possible. The same things that stop novels from being published most likely would stop comics as well but it would be nice to see anyways. I know Firefly or something was going to wrap up their storylines with comics and I wish I knew what happened to that.

I know even this is a lot to wish for, but wouldn't it be neat if they could make a CD of sorts? If i remember correctly, the idea of tying the show up with the characters describing flashbacks had been thrown around by fans on the old board. Imagine if they did something like this with just audio-- we'd get the end plus the voices of our fave characters! So much of acting really is vocal. We could just close our eyes and... *drifts off into fantasy*

wow ^ just realized i described an audio book... Ah oh well... a gal can dream!! You have to admit that would be pretty cool.
