Well, I guess it is time for me to weigh in on this one...First off, y'all are looking at this the wrong way...You keep talking about this dust-up as if the only way to win is by "Knock Out". Well, having been in several fights and having seen a bunch more, I'm here to tell you that almost no fight ends that way. For one thing, it hurts like hell to punch someone in the head (Which is why I always laugh at the conclusion of Prophecy..Veronica couldn't knock Ned out even with a sucker punch, but she'd have been howling in pain if she tried it...Ned, on the other hand, was able to knock her out since the bone structure of Veronica's jaw/skull is way lighter than his..or Roxton's. But, he too would have felt it. Trust me, it hurts.). For another, it's remarkably hard to do (Generally, you have to hit a person in just the right spot on the jaw).
Instead of a knock out, you should be focusing in on how much punishment either person can dish out and take...Fights are almost always concluded by one person hurting the other enough that person gives up or can't return to the fight. If you are talking solely about knock out's than Roxton has the advantage of heavier muscles/bones. He could take more punishment and deliver a heavier blow. As someone said earlier, all he would have to do is land one good punch to the head (As Ned did) and the fight would be over.
On the other hand, since most fights aren't concluded that way, you'd have to consider three points: 1. Which fighter has more experience in hand to hand combat (Veronica wins this catagory far and away); 2. Which fighter has more skill at hand to hand combat (Again, by training ..her time with the Amazons...Veronica wins this catagory. Roxton, in that era may well have boxed, but nothing else, whereas Veronica, by her lifestyle, would have been required to have learn to fight with all parts of her body just to survive.) and 3. Which fighter is tougher..who can take more punishment. Think of Rocky Balboa..He won all his fights by being able to take more punishment than his opponents. He was willing and able to take two or three lighter blows in order to close with his opponent and deliver one much heavier punch. As long as he could take the punishment, the advantage lay with him.... This one might be a toss up with a slight advantage to Roxton because of his heavier build and a nod to Veronica because of her likely greater experience in hand to hand combat (You have to do it in order to learn how to take it).
All things considered, I think it i more likely that Veronica would emerge the winner in such a confrontation.
But, there is a wild card that is seldom considered. You can talk about skill and experience and speed and agility all you want, but most fights are decided by one factor and one factor only: which fighter hates the taste of dust more. That may sound an odd thing to say, but it is true. My maternal Grand Pa was a perfect example. He was a skinny guy with not an ounce to spare. On his heaviest day, he wouldn't have made 140 soaking wet wearing the heaviest coat he owned. He was also a coal miner and back in those days, the mines were tough. Fights happened all the time. Now, you'd think that my Grand Pa, being so small would have been picked on all the time.. And you'd be totally wrong .He was legendary for his ability to out fight much, much larger miners. No one..and I mean no one ..ever messed with him. I asked him once why that was and this is what he told me.
" It isn't skill or strength or size that wins a fight. It really isn't even about toughness. Nope, the guy who wins is the one who gets up out of the dirt that one last time because he hates the taste of dust in his mouth more than the other guy. That's the guy who wins."
My Grandpa purely hated the taste of dust. He would will himself to win over much bigger men because he didn't want to lose.
Essentially, all things being equal, it'd boil down to which one of them hated the taste of dust more..which one wanted it more.
All that said, I still think Veronica would win..Roxton would get set to smack her down and Veronica would pull the oldest and dirtiest trick in the book..She'd flash the big guy and while he was standing there in shock, she'd de-pants him.
Trust me..no one can win a fight with his pants around his knees..*VBG*
Now that would be fighting dirty...*G*
