Hey Beckers, just thought I would update you on our Grebe,
He survived the night very well, the next day I let him paddle around in the sink in the utility room. My boys put grasses and plants form the garden in so it would look like a pond. I tried feeding it a worm, but it was still too shocked to eat. Later that day a friend told me one of our neighbors works for the wildlife association or something like it here and is also an avid bird watcher.
I took him up to him and he kept him for another night. The next day he brought it to the reservoir in Roundwood where there were other Grebes. He said he nearly jumped out of the box when he saw the water and immediately began diving for food. So, all is well and "Laserbeak" [as my sons named him] is back where he belongs and hopefully doing well. Thanks for your concern. _________________ I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Just droppin by to put up some pics! These are of my dog Tora. We named him that after the Japanese word/character for "Tiger" (虎 - doesn't it look like a dog?), because he is an American-Akita whose parents came from Japan (The breed is named after the rugged, mountainous Akita province on one of Japan's islands). Tora was born in Conroe, Texas, in the US.
The first is what he normally looks like when you try to take a picture of him, he has the face that says "what're you doing?"
The second is him doing...what else...chewin up a doggy bone _________________ They're not mushrooms! They're jungle truffles! ~ VL

I was just wondering if any of you had a chance could you give a thought to my dog Jackie. She had to go to the vet yesterday and is there still tonight. She has had a problem with arthitis in her back. She was doing fine for the past few months but yesterday she could barely put weight on her back legs.
She is a 10 yr old German Shepard who wouldn't hurt a fly. She loves all things little. When someone comes over with a baby she will sit with her nose in the buggy sniffing it for hours. We had a kitten once which she loved to wash and cuddle with. And, when we got our other dog as a puppy, she let him play with her ears and share her bed.
When my first son was born my husband went out and got a fancy baby monitor. We never turned it on. Jackie would lay in the doorway and quietly wimper if she heard him stir.
I lived in apartments all my life until I moved here, so she is the first dog I have ever had of my own. The first 2 years of living here I was very isolated and we spent hours everyday together hiking in the hills around my house and hanging around the beach. [her favorite place, mine too.] I feel such a strong bond with her and can't bare losing her.
I haven't told the kids the reality of the situation so they don't know. My husband has been horrible. When I was leaving to take her to the vet he said, "don't drag this out, she'll be dead in 6 months anyway." Where is a T-Rex when you need one.
I have been going about my business all day trying not to think about it, but the vet just called to say she has improved slightly but she can only give her one more dose of the meds and if there isn't any more improvement...
Sorry to go on about it. If you've gotten this far, thank you for listening and well, just thank you. _________________ I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Awww....Kaly I'm going through something similar with my dog, Keebler. They are such blessings, that it's heartbreaking to think of them as being anywhere but right next to us.
So far Keebie is in good shape, I just have to get her one of those "doggie wheelchairs" so she can put her hind legs on a cart and then toddle over anyplace she thinks she needs to be! Yes, it will be a sad sight but the vet says that she's completely healthy so it looks like I'll have a geriatric circus dog now.
Bless her heart, she can't hear a thing...thank goodness. My thoughts are with you and your Jackie. I know you are going through a really sad thing and I'll definitely send up some prayers for you.
On the brightside, I'll be mailing your tape to you this weekend so you'll have something to look forward to in the post.
Keep me posted on how everyone is doing...especially Jackie!

Thanks for posting that pic of Brandy, CAP. I have a problem with my old computer managing posting pictures.
Brandy was enjoying the heat from the wall heater on a chilly winter day. _________________ "Cats are like potato chips... it's hard to have just one."

Thanks Kimmer.
It's a new program for me so I was experimenting a little. It didn't turn out too bad -- though I need to work on my style a bit.
And just think -- I will have had Max x1 year this July. It was last year at this time I was reaching out and asking everyone if they thought I should get a dog and checking out the local shelters.
And there was Max. The sadest dog I ever saw ... and he isn't looking so sad anymore, is he? _________________
